Wausau Paper to Shut Groveton, NH Paper Mill

Oct. 23, 2007 - Wausau Paper said that it will cease manufacturing operations at its Groveton, New Hampshire mill, effective December 31, 2007. The closure will reduce the capacity of the company's Printing & Writing segment by approximately 105,000 tons per year, or 28 percent.

The shutdown will affect about 300 permanent jobs, Wausau said.

“This capacity reduction will allow our sales and marketing efforts to focus on customer service as well as strategic products and brands such as Astrobrights®, Royal®, and Exact®, and better support our core stock-based and special manufacturing business,” said Thomas J. Howatt, president and CEO of Wausau Paper.

The company will continue to produce printing and writing grades at its Brokaw, Wisconsin and Brainerd, Minnesota mills.
