Six Named to Paper Industry International Hall of Fame

Sept. 6, 2007 - The Paper Industry International Hall of Fame said that its membership roster will grow to 82 on Thursday, October 18th with the induction of six more exceptional paper industry innovators who have been chosen as the 13th annual induction class.

Harry T. Cullinan, Kari Ebeling, Lothar Göttsching, the late Curt G. Joa, George P. Mueller, and the late György Vámos will join the 76 previous members of the Paper Hall during induction ceremonies at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Eugene van As will deliver the keynote presentation for the induction ceremony. van As is non-executive chairman of Sappi Limited.

The 2007 inductees and their categories of recognition are:

  • Harry T. Cullinan, Ph.D., director, Alabama Center for Paper and Bioresource Engineering, professor, ChE Department, Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, U.S.A., for Academic, Research & Development, and Leadership;
  • Kari Ebeling, Ph.D., professor (retired), Helsinki University of Technology director research & development (retired), UPM-Kymmene Corp., Espoo , Finland, for Academic, Research & Development, and Leadership;
  • Lothar Göttsching, Dr.-Ing., professor (retired), Technische Universität Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany, for Academic and Research & Development;
  • Curt G. Joa, founder and president (deceased), Curt G. Joa, Inc., Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, U.S.A., for Founder, Research & Development, and Entrepreneur;
  • George P. Mueller, president (retired), Wisconsin Tissue Mills, Menasha, Wisconsin, U.S.A., for Leadership, Research & Development, and Service;
  • György Vámos, Ph.D., founder and director (deceased), Hungarian Paper and Cellulose Research Institute, Budapest, Hungary, for Founder, Academic, and Research & Development.

The 13th annual ceremony will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 8 p.m., all at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in downtown Appleton.

Following the ceremony, honorees and guests are invited to enjoy dessert at the Paper Discovery Center, an interactive museum that celebrates everything related to paper, located along the banks of the Fox River at 425 W. Water Street in Appleton.

The Center is also home to the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame.
