Southern Container Agrees to Purchase Pre-Flex
Nov. 4, 2006 - Southern Container Corp. on Thursday said it has agreed in principle to acquire the remaining shares of Pre-Flex, a pre-print operation started up this year in Hebron, Kentucky.
The value of the deal was not disclosed
“The transaction is good for both companies, allowing Southern to further grow in the strategic area of pre-print and allowing Group O to better focus on their core business,” said James Porter, president and COO of Southern.
Southern is currently a partner in a joint venture with Group O.
Southern said the move further strengthens its pre-print capabilities—a significant area of focus and growth. The company is currently the majority partner in SCI, North America's largest pre-print operation.
Southern said it expects the transaction to be completed within 60 days.
Southern Container Corp. is the largest U. S. independent manufacturer of corrugated boxes. Existing facilities include eight large-scale corrugated box plants and two sheet plants. In addition, Southern is involved with five joint ventures which complement their core business, specifically: Solvay Paperboard, the largest independent containerboard producer in North America; SCI, the largest pre-print operation in North America; GraphCorr, a manufacturer of micro-flute and litho-laminate packaging; Pohlig Brothers, a folding carton and rigid box manufacturer; and Pre-Flex, a pre-print manufacturer.
