China's Demand for Paper is Growing Rapidly

Jan. 27, 2006 - Demand for paper and paper-based products in China is growing fast, creating an attractive environment for foreign investment in paper manufcaturing and auxiliary businesses..

According to ChinaPaperOnline, China annually spends nearly US$5 billion for importing paper products and industry analysts estimate that in coming years, China’s total paper and paperboard demands will grow in average 60% annually.

The article went on to say that in 2005, the total consumption of paper products in China reached 50 million tons, in which only 39.2 million tons were produced in China.

Analysts forecast that by 2015, China will produce 65 million tons, ChinaPaperOnline said, and paper consumption per capita will be boosted from a 2001 figure of 29kg to 56kg, exceeding the current world level of 51.8kg.

In the meantime, the development of China's paper industry will certainly push forward forestry, machinery, energy and other related industry, the article concluded.
