North American Newsprint Production Down in November
Jan 16, 2006 (Press Release) - The Pulp and Paper Products Council reported that North American newsprint mills ran at 93% of their capacity in November, as production contracted 7.1% compared to the same month last year. After 11 months, mills have cut their newsprint production by 4.9%.
In November total shipments fell 7.5% due to a 4.1% decline in sales to the U.S. and a 23% drop in exports, whereas deliveries to Canada increased 4.3%. So far in 2005, total shipments by North American producers has decreased 4.4%.
By the end of November, North American mill stocks declined by 25,000 tonnes, to stand at 311,000 tonnes.
