Jan. 4, 2006 - Arnold M. Nemirow, chairman, president and CEO of Bowater, Inc., yesterday said that he intends to retire from the company during 2006.

Nemirow said that this timeframe meets his retirement objectives, as discussed with the Board of Directors during the past year.

Bowater's board is conducting a search for a successor.

Nemirow has served as CEO of the company since March 1995.
